Summer Term Enrolment Now Open

Online After School Music Technology Club for Ages 11–16

Finding meaningful after-school activities for young people isn’t always easy. And if your child doesn’t naturally gravitate toward team sports or traditional music lessons, it can feel like there aren’t many creative options that are accessible, engaging, and actually teach real skills.

That’s exactly what our Online After School Music Technology Club offers — and enrolment is now open for the Summer Term, starting Wednesday 7th May 2025.

The club runs for 10 weeks (term time), every Wednesday from 4:15–5:15pm BST, and is open to learners aged 11–16 across the UK. It’s completely online, affordable, and built to support creativity, confidence and progression — whether a young person is just starting out or already experimenting with music at home.

What Is Music Technology – and Why Should Parents Care?

Music technology is the process of creating, recording, arranging and producing music or sound using digital tools. These are skills once limited to professionals working in expensive recording studios — but now, they’re widely accessible and genuinely empowering for young people.

With just a laptop or desktop, a pair of headphones, and a stable internet connection, learners can access free, browser-based music software that allows them to create, explore, and experiment — no downloads or purchases needed.

This isn’t about flashy apps or gimmicks. It’s about helping learners understand how music is built, giving them tools to create something from scratch, and supporting them as they develop real-world digital and creative skills.

It can also support and enhance the traditional teaching and learning of music — helping learners better understand composition, structure, rhythm and harmony in a hands-on, relevant way.

Who Is This For?

This club is designed for young people who:

• Want to make their own music but don’t know where to start

• Already sing, rap, play instruments or DJ — and want to learn how to produce music themselves

• Enjoy being creative, especially on computers or digital platforms

• Might not connect with traditional music lessons, but love music and sound

• Are looking for something fun, practical, and different to look forward to each week

We welcome complete beginners as well as learners with some experience. The group is kept small so we can support everyone at their own pace.

We’ve seen learners who had no initial interest in becoming musicians absolutely fall in love with music technology — and instrumentalists use it to take their skills to the next level. It has the power to engage even the hardest-to-reach young people, spark curiosity, and unlock a genuine love of learning.

What Will They Learn?

Over the 10-week term, learners will:

• Create their own music using intuitive online tools

• Explore beat-making, song structure, layering, and effects

• Record and arrange vocals or instruments

• Learn how to mix sounds and build full tracks

• Understand the building blocks of music theory in a practical, relevant way

• Get personalised feedback, encouragement, and optional catch-up material

All sessions are live and guided — not pre-recorded videos — and designed to help young people build confidence, problem-solving skills, and a creative routine they can grow with over time.

Who’s Running It?

The summer term club is led by Andrew Ferguson, a professional music producer, DJ, and educator with nearly 30 years of industry experience and over 15 years working in education.

Andrew is the founder of Education & Bass, a platform that’s supported thousands of learners and teachers across the UK and internationally through online learning, in-school workshops, and accredited music technology programmes.

He’s taught everyone from beginners in schools and alternative provision to degree-level students — and he brings the same care, energy and insight to every learner, no matter their starting point.

Why It Matters

This club isn’t just about making music — it’s about giving young people the space to discover what they’re capable of, in an environment that’s relaxed, inclusive, and structured.

It’s for the kids who want to do something different. The ones who might not always raise their hands in music class, but have ideas bubbling under the surface. The ones who spend hours listening to music and wondering how it’s made. The ones who just need the right tools — and someone to show them how to start.

Let’s give them something to build on. A creative outlet. A real skill. And a chance to make something that’s completely their own.
